Calendula is the flower that made me fall in love with medicinal plants. So common, so easy to grow, so powerful and yet so gentle. Sometimes it's easy to idolise rare and remote plants with wonderful properties, but there's something deeply beautiful about a widely available flower with impressive properties and so many different uses.
Calendula is a true all-purpose healer and truly represents the all-purpose nature of our skin care formulas. Here are some of the main benefits of using Calendula flower and the reason why you should use it for your skin.
1. Soothing and Gentle
Calendula feels extremely soothing and it is gentle ingredient for those have a very sensitive skin, but that doesn't make it any less powerful. It has personally helped me heal my hyper sensitive skin issues and Calendula has always managed to soothe my irritated skin. It is an effective ingredient in the treatment of eczemas (dermatitis), sensitive skins, acne, mature and dry skins.
2. Anti-inflammatory and Healing Action
Anti-inflammatory action, effective for irritated and blemish-prone skins. The compounds in the flower stimulate wound healing activities and the production of collagen so it's also great to treat burns and wounds.
3. Anti-oxidant and Photoprotective Properties
It also has anti-oxidant and photoprotective properties. Calendula flower slows down the appearance of wrinkles and the ageing process, protecting the skin cells from oxidative stress and cell damage. Studies have also shown that Calendula flower contains photoprotective properties that absorb UV radiation. Perfect for skins exposed to sun, pollution and ageing.
4. Anti-bacterial, Anti-viral and Anti-parasitic Properties
Strong compounds that protect your natural skin barrier from bacteria, virus and other pathogens; which makes Calendula a strong acne fighter as well as a powerful anti-septic. It also has a very low comedogenic rating so there's no chance that this ingredient will clog your pores.
5. Supports the Immune System
Not only it can do wonders for any type of skin, it can also support your immune system. Calendula flower extract presents an immunomodulator action and stimulates lymphocite proliferation (the white blood cells and one of the body's main types of immune cells).
It has got so many medicinal properties that it becomes a very useful ingredient for all types of skin. This flower feels like a gift of nature that has been used for centuries by many different civilisations in different places to protect our bodies and specially our skin, it has helped my skin massively and now I want to help many others heal their skin and keep nurturing a close relationship with a flower that has helped us heal for many centuries.
This is the reason why you will find Calendula in all our formulas, it is a personal formulation signature. The ingredient that represents our brand and the properties that represent our formula.
